Using AutoCAD® Data in ArcGIS™ Desktop
 
  With the ever increasing need for design and GIS professionals to share data, it is critical that GIS users understand and are able to make use of data created with Autodesk’s AutoCAD® Software. Using AutoCAD Data in ArcGIS is a two day class that explains the dwg format and how to integrate into standard ESRI data formats such as shapefiles and geodatabases.
 
  Course Goals
 

After successfully completing this course you will have acquired a good understanding of Autodesk’s DWG format and how to use dwg files in ArcGIS Desktop. These new skills include:

  • Understanding the DWG/DXF file format
  • View DWG/DXF’s in ArcCatalog
  • Add DWG/DXF files as a layer in ArcMap
  • How to query and symbolize using standard DWG attributes
  • How to convert DWG data to a geodatabase or shapefile
  • How to georeference and spatially adjust a DWG
  • How to use and convert DWG Annotation

  Prerequisites
  Students taking this course should have taken Introduction to ArcGIS I and Introduction to ArcGIS II or have similar real world experience. No previous experience with AutoCAD or other CAD soft is needed.
