Training Courses

The training courses this year will be covering a variety of GIS topics and ranging from Beginner to Advanced. These classes are on a limited first come first served basis and typically accommodate 12-14 students.

  • Programming ArcGIS with Python - Two Days - $650.00
  • Introduction to ArcGIS Online - One Day - $300.00
  • Introduction to WebApp Builder - One Day - $350.00
  • Introduction to GIS - Two Days - $550.00

In order to receive a full refund for the cancellation of your 2014 SHRUG GIS Workshop registration, express written notification of the cancellation must be emailed to Duane Treadon no later than September 30th, 2014. For payments received by credit card, a CREDIT will be made to the account number used for billing. All other forms of payment will receive a check mailed to the Billing Name and Address listed on the registration form.

All Cancellation requests postmarked after September 30th, 2014, but no later than October 12th, 2014, will receive 75% of the amount of the original registration fee. The same refund methods listed above will still apply. All cancellation requests postmarked after October 12th, 2014 but before October 23th, 2014, will receive 50% of the amount of the original registration fee. Programming ArcGIS with Python

Esri has adopted Python as its primary scripting language for the ArcGIS platform. Python can now be used to create labeling expressions, in the Field Calculator, administer SDE, create custom add-ins, and more. This is making it more and more critical for ArcGIS users to learn Python.

This two day class will introduce students to the fundamentals of the Python scripting language, how to access basic ArcGIS geoprocessing functions using a python script and how to create simple python scripts using IDLE.

Eric Pimpler, GISP, is the founder and owner of GeoSpatial Training Services ( and has over 20 years of experience implementing and teaching GIS solutions using ESRI, Google Earth/Maps, Open Source technology. Currently Eric focuses on ArcGIS scripting with Python, and the development of custom ArcGIS Server web and mobile applications using JavaScript.

Introduction to ArcGIS Online

ArcGIS Online is a website that is created and maintained by Esri. It is an online warehouse of maps, data, applications, and tools which allows Esri, Esri partners, and the GIS community to publish and store their own GIS on the web. In this one day course you are introduced to ArcGIS Online. You will learn how to search for existing maps, access basemaps, create maps, access online tasks, share content, share maps, and use the community maps program.

This two day course provides the foundation for understanding GIS, what it can do, and how others are using it. Students learn the basic functions of a GIS, GIS Terminology, and why GIS is powerful tool for data analysis, retrieval and visualization using Esri's ArcGIS for Desktop software. In course exercises, students work with ArcMap, an application within ArcGIS Desktop, to visualize geographic data, create maps, query a GIS database, and perform spatial analysis.
